Blake was a businessman and partner in Calif. quarrying companies and the son of gold rush pioneer Charles T. Blake. In 1899, he became president of his father's company, Oakland Paving Company. The Blake and Bilger Company was incorporated in 1904, and invested in the San Pablo Quarry Company in 1906. In 1914 the Blake family bought out the interests of F.W. Bilger and changed the company name to the Blake Brothers Company. The company was in operation until 1963 when it was acquired by the Standard Oil Company of California.
